In order to create an engaging and interactive online class experience Roland used the Lightboard in conjunction with Collaborate Ultra to deliver their online lectures. In addition Roland has used the Ligthboard to deliver presentations at online conferences throughout AY20/21, as well as using the technology when guest lecturing on a module with Cornell University.

You have certainly won the prize for the most technologically advanced and sophisticated presentation. I have never seen this before.

Experience & Impact  In trimester 1 AY 20/21, Roland began delivering the module, European IR and HRM (a stage 3 module with approximately 50 students enrolled) by utilising the lecture capture system in the classroom and broadcasting via live stream to students watching at home. Realising that this method curtailed the engagement required between students and lecturer in this module, he opted to trial a different type of delivery.

In consultation with Business eLearning (which included a test of the system for both Roland and this tutor who would be moderating the module) he opted to deliver the module from the recording studio,  using Collaborate Ultra as his virtual classroom tool and the Lighboard. By using Collaborate Ultra, Roland was able to communicate with the students directly via the online class tools, as well as being able to transcribe concepts and ideas by using the Lighboard. The advantage of the Lighboard is that instructors maintain eye contact with the students as they write on the board. This means that they retain engagement with the students.

Upon receiving positive feedback from students in the trimester 1 module, Roland proceeded to use the same delivery method for his postgraduate module, Work and Employment in the Global Economy, in trimester 2.

In addition to this Roland has used the Lighboard to present at multiple online conferences over the past months, as well as using the technology when guest presenting for a module in Cornell University.
